So after many days of going back and forth between ideas I finally decided I want to start learning new piano pieces again. I had made it up to grade 8 piano (there are only 10 grades) when I was taking piano lessons in high school and ever since then I had comfortably played pieces in grade 7. I haven’t learned a new piece in over a year now and I decided it is time to pick it up again. I have used the piano as an escape in the past, to simply stop my mind and allow it to focus solely on the sound using it to calm many anxieties I get. I have decided to play Andante Sostenuto by Felix Mendelssohn as I have played pieces by him before and enjoyed them immensely. I will be looking into different ways to learn and memorize the piece as well as diving into the history of the composer and talking about fear of performing (I definitely have stage fright). Hopefully in the next two months I will be able to learn and memorize this piece and maybe perform it in front of a few people to combat my fear!

Hi Rebecca,
I also learned the piano when I was young, probably in elementary school days, and ended up quitting a few years after because of moving schools. It was sad but I always wanted to learn again. It requires big courage to pick up something that you haven’t done for some time. I like your passion! 🙂 You motivate me too! 😀 hope to see your improvement along with your free inquiry project.
