Hello friends, family, teachers and fellow teacher-candidates!

Before I start into my reflections for my first week I thought I would give a little introduction about myself. I was born and raised in British Columbia and moved to the beautiful small town of Grand Forks at the age of 1. I grew up with rivers, lakes, and the mountain-side as my second back yard doing anything and everything from hiking to snowboarding to fishing. I moved to Victoria in 2013 to attend university at UVic and obtain a bachelors in Chemistry and now I am back again for my post-degree program in secondary education, following in the footsteps of many of my family members including my parents. I love volleyball as I played it all throughout high school and into University, including the competitive club team for UVic. I also really enjoy playing the piano and have been since I was 5 and taught some young kids beginner level piano last year which inspired me to become a teacher, that my high school chemistry teacher’s passion and my love for chemistry. I also assisted my high school chemistry teacher with her classes last year, which affirmed my desire to help students.

Anyways enough about me, well at least about my history, and onto my reflections for the first week. After the first week of classes I was excited and overwhelmed all at the same time. I am so excited to be apart of this program and I can’t wait to become a teacher but I am feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the information we have been given in the first week. Each class seems to have a list of about 5-10 things to do each week and I have my first two assignments due in less than 3 weeks. I came from a degree where you had a midterm or two worth 40% and then a final worth 60% and that was it so having assignments and all of this creative expectation has thrown me for a loop. Before taking EDCI 336 I used to think I was good at technology, maybe even great. I mean I am the person in the family that all the grandparents call for help when they can’t figure out how to work their ipad or why they can’t send an email but after the first class I had to sign up for 6 different websites and I had only used or even heard of one before. I am slowly beginning to maneuver the sites and I am starting to feel as though I am getting a better grasp of my classes so I’m glad this week is ending on a good note.

Until next week!
